ATM, LANE and CLIP

In this chapter, the basic concepts of   Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) will be explained in Section gif in order to gain a better understanding of the problems associated with implementing an IP multicasting system on top of it. Besides using ATM as a LAN technology for Classical IP and ARP over ATM (CLIP), which will be explained in Section gif, and other Layer 3 network protocols, it is also used in native mode and as lower layer service provider for LAN Emulation (LANE), which emulates the functions of an  Ethernet or  Token-Ring LAN. LANE is discussed in Section gif.
