Conclusions

RFC 2022, as already suggested in the problem statement in Chapter 1, is the best specification to start work on the addition of multicasting capabilities to an existing Classical IP and ARP over ATM implementation. At this time, RFC 2022 is the ``standard'' IETF way to do this and several other drafts use concepts from this RFC to expand or improve upon it. One aspect that cannot be emphasised clearly enough is that signalling support for switched point-to-multipoint VCCs is essential for the correct and efficient operation of an RFC 2022 implementation.

In the context of this thesis, we must now find out how the ideas presented in RFC 2022 can be integrated in our particular implementation environment (Linux-ATM). For that, we must first get to know the Linux-ATM package. In Chapter 7, the implementation of the MARS, MCS and MARS Cluster member entities on the Linux-ATM platform is discussed.
